As befits a project on this scale, a giant spade was used to break the ground for the new park at 4pm on 3 October. At the same time, a new name was announced for this prestigious development: XL Business Park Twente.
The spade in question was no less than eight metres in length. It was wielded by members of the Overijssel provincial government and the local authorities involved in the project.
A king-size sign bearing the park's new name was also unveiled. At 20 metres long and 5 metres high, and clearly visible from the A35 motorway, this ensures that nobody passing can miss the fact that work on XL Business Park Twente is now well under way.
In fact, everything at the ceremony was XL – even the champagne came in a 12-litre bottle. The tone has been set: nothing is bigger than XL.
